As a Breast Cancer Survivor for 7 years, it has become my passion to educate women on the importance of Beast Self-Exams and Routine Mammograms.

The Breast Self-Exam is important for everyone, however, for younger ladies that are not of age for Mammograms, it's even more critical. Don't wait until it's too late to learn to do a "Breast Self-Exam" with Confidence. IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE! The best time to begin your monthly routine of self-check, is the day after you have had a checkup with your Doctor with normal results. Familiarize yourself with the texture of the breast tissue so that if you feel something that was not there last month, you will know it, and can act on it immediately. Make this a priority of your self-care routine just like your nails and hair appointments! Recently a government appointed task force is now recommending that women start Mammographic screening at age 50, do it every other year and stop at the age of 74. Most breast cancer doctors believe this recommendation's primal goal was cost containment. The irony is that this is taking place at a time when incredible progress in being made in the early detection of breast cancer. The introduction of 3-D Mammograms, breast ultrasound and breast MRI allow a potential reduction of cancer mortality by more than 50%.

The key to reducing breast cancer mortality is to start early mammographic screening at 40, not 50, and earlier if high risk. I am involved in a grass roots campaign called 40 not 50. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact me so I can give you the information.
